How much consistency is too much consistency?

I’ve been designing social content for a protein bar brand, and today I got stuck on that annoying little balance between making everything feel consistent without making everything look exactly the same. It’s surprisingly easy to build a “system” and then realize you’ve basically just designed one post 20 different ways lol. So I’ve been trying to think less about repeating layouts and more about repeating the little things that make the brand feel like itself. Same visual language, different expression.

Sometimes it’s not a design problem

I’ve been designing a website for a small Muay Thai gym and got completely stuck on the pricing page. I kept changing the hierarchy, moving things around, simplifying the layout... and nothing was making it feel clearer. Eventually I realized the layout wasn’t the problem. The actual pricing structure was confusing. Which is maybe an embarrassingly obvious lesson, but a good reminder that design can only clarify the information you give it. Sometimes when I’ve been pushing pixels around for way too long, I need to stop trying to design my way out of a problem and question the thing I’m designing instead.

Okay, I’m building a diary

I’ve been wanting to get better at sharing what I’m working on while I’m actually working on it, instead of only posting things once they’re polished and done. The problem is I’m a perfectionist, so “documenting my work” very quickly turns into another project I somehow need to art direct lol. So I’m trying something different. I’m building this little public diary for all the half-finished ideas, experiments, things I changed my mind about, things that broke, and random stuff I’m figuring out along the way. And because I know myself, I’m also seeing how much of the documenting I can get AI to do for me.
